NL: Health care organisations speak about uniform barcoding at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport

Before the end of 2014 health care organisations want to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and GS1 Nederland to implement uniform barcoding. On 4 July the health care organisations met with Martijn Sanders, acting director GMT of the Ministry.
European legislation regarding uniform barcoding for medicine and medical devices is still necessary, but this legislation is not in place yet. In the meantime health care organisations, the Ministry and GS1 Nederland are already working out what providers of health care and manufacturers can agree on. The talks are about sector wide agreements made between hospitals and manufacturers (GS1 website, 12 August 2014).
