Hazardous substances – EU rules and regulations
EU: SGS reports that the EC has published the 18th adaptation to technical and scientific progress (ATP-18) to the CLP regulation. It amends Annex VI, adding 39 new entries, revising 17 entries and deleting one entry. The EC is requesting feedback on a draft act for PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds and the EC has published a Restrictions Roadmap under the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. The roadmap contains a rolling list of substances, which will become the basis for the multiannual planning under REACH. The list includes bisphenols, PFAS and PVC.
ECHA has launched consultations to support the Member State Committee in adopting an opinion on whether BPF and BPAF (including eight BPAF salts) meet the criteria for EDCs. The deadline for comments is 20 June 2022.
ECHA has announced that EU exporters are now required to notify their intention to export 22 additional chemicals following an amendment to the Prior Informed Consent Regulation (PIC) Regulation. ECHA has also announced a new release of the IUCLID software.
Belgium: The FPS Mobility and Transport (in Dutch) has published an updated RID handbook (in Dutch, 2.36 MB) on the transport of dangerous goods by rail.
Hazardous substances – rules and regulations outside the EU
Africa: ICCA has announced a new project with Kenya, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria to support the countries as they implement the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). So far, only three African countries – Mauritius, South Africa, and Zambia – have implemented the GHS.
Switzerland: SGS reports that Switzerland has revised the Chemical Risk Reduction Ordinance ORRChem by implementing provisions from EU REACH and the POP Recast Regulation.

Tool to check the chemical hazard profile of additives used in plastic
ChemFOWARD and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) have published the Plastic Additive Optimization Tool. It enables users to check the chemical hazard profile of over 1100 different additives used in plastics.

PFAS and phthalates may impair bone health
The Endocrine Society reports that PFAS and phthalates (two types of EDCs) may be associated with lower bone mineral density in male teens. An article (abstract) about the research is published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
