Packaging helps heart patient to correctly take medicines

04 April 2018

How do you make sure that patients take their blood thinners in time and in the right way? Researchers of UHasselt and Jessa Hospital found the answer in a new technology based on telemonitoring. The technology was used for the first time in a study that was recently published in the authoritative European Heart Journal.
The UHasselt/Jessa researchers wanted to try the new technology. 48 patients took a bottle with their medicine home. A microchip in the cap enabled the research by perfectly registering each time the bottle was opened by the patients. The results are good: 97% of the patients took their medicines in time and in the right way (News Item UHasselt, 9 March 2018).
