Extending the shelf life of guava with cling and shrink films
Guava is a climacteric fruit so physio-chemical changes continuously occur after harvest till fruit becomes unfit for consumption and suffers from post-harvest losses. Researchers at CCS Haryana Agricultural University in India studied the effectiveness of film in the form of shrink and cling wrap on the shelf life of guava.
They found that film wrapping preserved the freshness of wrapped fruits as they remained acceptable for the whole storage time in contrast to control fruits which turned unacceptable by the 15th day of storage. Cling and shrink wrapping enhanced the shelf life by 10 days. An article about the research is published in the Journal of Food Science and Technology.
