US: Kansas bill to establish a container deposit scheme
On 10 February 2016 Bill HB 2673 was introduced to establish a container deposit scheme (CDS). Covered beverage containers are metal, glass or plastic sealed containers, one gallon or less in volume, and containing an alcoholic liquor, malt beverage, mineral water, carbonated or non-carbonated soft drink, or carbonated or non-carbonated fruit or vegetable juice drink.
The start date for the CDS is not specified. However, the bill states that on 1 July 2018, the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment would report on the container redemption rate for the two years that those beverage containers have been subject to deposit (State Recycling Laws Update, 22 February 2016).
