US: Connecticut bill would add beverages to deposit scheme

On March 12, the Connecticut Environment Committee filed a raised bill with the Legislative Commissioners' Office that would add “any juice, tea and sports drink” to the beverages covered by the Connecticut Container Deposit Scheme. The beverages would become subject to a five-cent per container deposit later this year.
In the proposed bill the definition of noncarbonated beverage has been expanded to include any juice, tea and sports drink. In the original scheme the definition was water, including flavored water, nutritionally enhanced water, but excluding mineral water. The bill is HB 6033, and the expansion would take effect on October 1, 2015 (State Recycling Laws Update, 24 March 2015).
