Report published on the state of waste management in Canada

02 October 2014

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) has published a 154-page report titled, "State of Waste Management in Canada." The report was prepared by an environmental consulting firm.
While the report's executive summary section states that Canada "has a poor record on waste," the report focuses on discussing "opportunities" to improve the current situation. Among them are improvements in the following six areas: waste policy frameworks, waste prevention and upstream reduction, waste diversion, energy recovery from waste, landfill disposal and monitoring and reporting. The report examines what is happening at the state/territorial and national levels.
