Study calls for improved labeling of toddler drinks in the US

22 February 2018

Researchers evaluated toddler drink labeling practices. In conducting legal research on U.S. food label laws and regulations, the researchers found distinct policies for infant formulas, but nothing specific to toddler drinks.
They then evaluated toddler drink packages. They noted that toddler drinks go by a variety of names, which could be confusing for consumers. They observed that all toddler drink labels made at least one health or nutrition claim, and nearly all made multiple claims. The researchers encourage the FDA to provide guidance or regulations on toddler drink labeling. They also call for manufacturers to change their labeling practices (News Release NYU, 5 February 2018).
