North Netherlands to be testing ground for smart factories

The North Netherlands should become a testing ground for smart factories. The Smart Industry Fieldlab ‘Region of Smart Factories’ is a network of companies and knowledge institutions in the North of the Netherlands that is to develop new techniques in the next 4 years that can significantly improve productivity of the manufacturing industry. The goal is to create automated production systems that increasingly communicate with each other on detailed aspects of production. This way production processes can be made more efficient and economical, which in turn makes it interesting for companies to produce in the Netherlands instead of low-wage countries (News Item NOM, 17 March 2016).
