NL: Recovery of packaging glass out of household waste

12 January 2016

The recovery of packaging glass out of mixed household waste is possible and the quality of the result is comparable with glass recovered by separation at the source. This is the most important conclusion of the feasibility study performed for Nedvang at Attero. Attero is a Dutch waste recovery firm.
Approximately half of the packaging glass that ends up in household waste can be recovered from municipal solid-waste with a purity of 98.5%. The technique can be seen as a good addition to the current glass recovery where consumers dispose of their packaging glass in bottle banks. Wageningen UR (WUR) supervised the study and provided the report (Press Release Nedvang, 16 December 2015).
