NL: Government and marine industry sign plastic waste agreement

02 October 2014

To help reduce plastic pollution at sea, last week the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment, Melanie Schultz van Haegen, and representatives from five leading Dutch ports and the Royal Association of Dutch Ship-owners, as well as other stakeholders signed the Ship Waste Green Deal.
Among the provisions of the agreement are steps to reduce plastic waste generation during ship supply and separation of plastic waste on ship for later portside recycling. The Minister also called for harmonization of funding and enforcement efforts bilaterally among leading marine nations and at the EU level (Recycling Laws International, 19 September 2014).
