NL: Consequences Chinese import ban on plastic waste

03 April 2018

In 2017, China announced an import ban on 24 types of waste, including car tires, textiles, plastics and glass. This ban came of force on 1 January 2018. Many European countries, including the Netherlands, exported waste to China to have it processed and recycled.
In December 2017, the Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) organised a meeting to collect insights about the consequences of China’s more stringent import trade politics for the packaging chain. As a result of this meeting, a document has been written that lists the main challenges, opportunities and possibilities to act for the Dutch plastic (packaging) chain (News Item KIDV, 20 March 2018).
