NL: More purchases online - Increased spending in EU webshops

21 December 2017

Dutch consumers increasingly use the Internet to make everyday purchases. So far in 2017, over one-quarter have purchased foodstuffs or cosmetics online, compared to 19% one year previously. The items most frequently bought online are clothing and sports goods. Of the Dutch population aged 12 years and over, 76% stated they had made an online purchase this year as against 73% one year previously.
Webshops registered in the Netherlands saw sales increase by 18% in the first six months of 2017. Of all retail shopping done online by Dutch consumers, around 10% is done in European (non-domestic) webshops (Press Releases Statistics Netherlands CBS, 27 November 2017).
