NL: 1 in 7 food euros spent on products with quality mark
The sales in supermarkets of food products with an independently assessed quality mark for sustainability has again shown double digit growth in 2017. Combined, these quality marks represent a growth of €830 million (+30%) and a total sales of 3.6 billion euro in 2017, according to the Monitor Quality Marks Retail 2017. In 2016, the growth was already 27% and it continues to show strong growth.
Fish with quality marks is chosen most often, relatively. In this category, 2 out of 3 euros are spent on a more sustainable product with the MSC or ASC quality mark. The fastest growth in quality mark turnover is seen in meat products (170%) and fresh meat (35%) (Press Release IRI, 13 June 2018).
