2024 European Brand Owner Packaging Survey
In December 2023 and January 2024, L.E.K. Consulting conducted the 2024 European Brand Owner Packaging Survey. The results are discussed in a three-article series:

Cosmetic packaging
According to a recent report by Fortune Business Insights, the global cosmetic packaging market value is expected to rise from $55.38 billion in 2024 to $79.99 billion by 2032. You can find more information in the report summary.

Packaging for acrylic paints
On 12 September 2024, Renée van den Hoek, held a presentation entitled ‘Development of more Sustainable Packaging for Acrylic Paints‘ as part of her master assignment at the University of Twente. Chairman of the assessment committee was prof. Roland ten Klooster who holds the NVC Chair Packaging Design and Management.

Consumer irritations
A DS Smith survey reveals the Top 10 supermarket packaging irritations according to British consumers. Topping the list is meat packaging that has a corner to peel – but is impossible to peel open.
A CBS survey shows that nearly 6 in 10 people in the Netherlands think that dog mess is a problem in their neighbourhood. Litter in the street was also a source of irritation for over 4 in 10 people in 2023.

NL: Sustainable Food Monitor 2023
The Sustainable Food Monitor 2023 (in Dutch, 707 kB) by WUR shows that consumers spent 14% more money on food with a sustainability label in 2023 than the year before. As such, spending on sustainable food rose faster than total spending on food (+11%).

Economic impact of blister-packaging on medication adherence
Medication nonadherence is a common issue in the US leading to increased health care costs. Blister-packaging is one of the available interventions. In a recent study, researchers found that blister-packaging chronic medications has the potential to reduce health care costs by improving health outcomes through increased medication adherence. The Becton, Dickinson and Company study (326 kB) is published in JMCP.

Prices for plastics
Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
