Market information: bioplastics, labels, adhesives, machinery and robots
According to a new European Bioplastics report (summary, 1.83 MB), global bioplastics production will more than triple within the next five years. The FINAT Yearbook 2020/2021 shows that the EU demand for self-adhesive labels increased by 4.3% in 2020. More statistics can also be found in a recent article. According to Smithers, the packaging industry will consume 5.40 million tonnes of adhesives in 2021. A forecast CAGR of 3.4% will push global consumption to 7.90 million tonnes in 2027. UCIMA reports that Italian packaging machinery manufacturers have reached an overall turnover of €8,435 million in 2021, 8% up on the result recorded in 2020. The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) reports a record of 3 million industrial robots operating in factories around the world in 2020 – an increase of 10%. The role of packaging in consumer purchase decisions
ISI Yogyakarta research (311 kB) published in the International Journal of Creative and Arts Studies, studies the effect of mineral water packaging designs on purchase decisions. An ISCTE master study (2.28 MB) looks at the influence of packaging on purchase intention of craft beer. In an article (570 kB) published in the Journal of Business and Management Studies, University of Santo Tomas researchers study the linkage of sustainable packaging design elements of skincare products to purchase decisions. In a Conference Paper (1.22 MB), University of Gävle researchers study packaging strategies at different companies.
Consumers and sustainability
In a recent report (2.41 MB) IGD sets out to understand the consumer view of reusable packaging. In the Index Report 2021 (5.54 MB), Tetra Pak unveils how COVID-19 has made consumers rethink the way they live and change how they act. A Deloitte EU survey about health and sustainability in grocery shopping can be downloaded after filling in your details. The Green Response Report by Essity seeks to understand how lifestyle changes as a result of COVID-19 might impact future attitudes towards the environment. On 25 November 2021, Geert Kazemier held a speech entitled ‘The emotional green consumer: research on the influence of emotions on sustainable consumer behavior ‘ as part of his master assignment at the University of Twente. Chairman of the assessment committee was prof. Roland ten Klooster who holds the NVC Chair Packaging Design and Management.
