Packaging markets and trends
Mintel has published Global Packaging Trends for 2023. You can receive the report after filling in your details.
In the period leading to interpack 2023 (4-10 May) the organisation is publishing a number of expert articles. Recent subjects are the confectionery market and cosmetics packaging.
According to a recent report by Fortune Business Insights, the global antimicrobial packaging will reach a value of $17.25 billion by 2029. You can find more information in the report summary. Aeternus (in Dutch) has published a financial analysis of the top 25 best performing Dutch packaging producers, wholesalers, printers and co-packers. You can receive the report after filling in your details (in Dutch).
Packaging Strategies has published its 2022 Top 25 Converters in North America.

Market for packaging machinery
During the press launch of interpack 2023 on 7 February 2023 at NVC member company Mpac the organisation presented a VDMA press release (157 kB) and data (336 kB) on the global market for food processing and packaging machinery. A VDMA press release (154 kB) and a report (216 kB) on the Western Europe packaged food machinery market were also presented. A week later, VDMA published an article about the German packaging machinery market.

Packaging design
On 9 February 2023, Matthijs Mondria held a speech entitled ‘Next generation drinking solution for beverage carton portion packs, balancing sustainability and convenience‘ as part of his master assignment at the University of Twente. Chairman of the assessment committee was prof. Roland ten Klooster who holds the NVC Chair Packaging Design and Management.
In a study (4.5 MB) published in the International Journal of Gastronomy and Food Science, Mondragon University researchers assess the influence of packaging design on the perception of brand premiumness.

Consumers and environment/sustainability
A joint study (1.04 MB) from McKinsey and NielsenIQ shows that consumers care about sustainability and are willing to pay for it.
According to RMIT University researchers, Australian consumers perceive packaging waste as a more serious environmental issue than food waste. The study (1.44 MB) is published in Sustainability.

Prices for plastics
Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
