Japan: Container and Packaging Recycling Law up for review
Various Japanese recycling laws include requirements for periodic reviews (usually at 5 year intervals). During August 2014, a public comment period was opened as part of the review for the Container and Packaging Recycling Law.
For the Container and Packaging Recycling Law, key discussion points listed in the review include promotion of source reduction and reusable packaging; division of operational and financial responsibilities between local governments and packaging producers/users for the system; recycling options for plastic including liberalizing conditions for energy recovery as a recycling option (Recycling Laws International, 4 September 2014).
