Guide to thriving in the post-COVID-19 workplace
A World Economic Forum team has issued the Guide to thriving in the post-COVID-19 workplace. The guide gives four steps that workers and businesses can take today to prepare for tomorrow: accelerate the move to platform, transition to digital/virtual work, assess their skillset and expand it as needed, and plan for the future.

Cedefop says 30% of EU jobs under social distancing threat
Cedefop has used the ESCO skills database to analyse 292 major skills requested in European online job ads, assessing their dependence on personal social interaction, how essential they were in coping with the public health crisis and providing basic services and their potential for performing work remotely. Cedefop reports that almost a third (30%) is exposed to very high or high social distancing risk. You can find more information here.

McKinsey says 59 million EU jobs are at risk due to COVID-19
McKinsey estimates that up to 59 million jobs (26% of total employment) across Europe are potentially at risk of reductions in hours or pay, temporary furloughs, or permanent layoffs due to COVID-19.

Where do robots replace humans in the USA?
Robots have been replacing workers over the last few decades, but to what extent, really? A recent study in the USA by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) puts firm numbers on the trend, finding a very real impact — although one that falls well short of a robot takeover. The study also finds that the impact of robots varies widely by industry and region, and may play a notable role in exacerbating income inequality. An article (abstract) about the study is published in the Journal of Political Economy.

Experts report on impact of coronavirus crisis on lifelong guidance in Europe
Cedefop invited experts from its CareersNet network to provide an initial assessment of how the coronavirus health emergency has affected the delivery of career and lifelong guidance in their country or region. Responses suggest a seismic shift towards online learning and guidance delivery. You can download the report here (1.27 MB).

Study started on effectiveness of online learning tools and methods
Wageningen University and Research (WUR) has launched a project striving to provide insights into the factors that shape the effective adoption of online education at the institute with around 13,000 students enrolled. WUR will study what online tools are used for different teaching methods, how these online tools are used in practice and evaluated by both teachers and students, and how this impacts the learning of students (and teachers).
