Glass packaging 30% thinner due to smart lubrication robot

Use less glass for the production of glass packaging for food and drinks to save costs and energy. That is the goal of XPAR Vision and STT Products. They are going to work on a smart lubrication robot for the glass packaging industry. This robot makes sure that no glass will stick to the moulds during production, which makes the glass packaging a lot thicker than necessary. The province is funding the project with over 131,000 euros.
At the moment glass packaging is usually 30% to 40% thicker than necessary. The new robot will work a lot more accurately and can reduce the amount of glass that is needed for the production by about 30% (News Item Province of Groningen, 10 April 2018).
