Hazardous chemicals in plastic packaging: An initial analysis
CHEM Trust has joined a collaboration of NGOs and academic scientists looking at the topical and crucial issue of hazardous chemicals in plastic packaging. The Food Packaging Forum, ChemSec, the University of Gothenburg and The Vrije University in Amsterdam identified over 4000 chemicals that are potentially present in plastic packaging.
Of the 908 chemicals that were identified as likely to be present in plastic packaging, 68 chemicals were identified as being most hazardous for the environment and 64 were identified as being most hazardous for human health. The first results of the research project were presented at the SETAC Europe conference on May 15, 2018 (CHEM Trust, 21 May 2018).
