Recycled plastics essential link in circular economy
The use of recycled plastics should become the standard for putting high-quality products on the market. This was the main message during the conference ‘Plastics gone circular’ on 13 June 2016.
The introduction of extensive producer responsibility, the use of recycled material, design for reuse, and design for recycling provide enough opportunities to close the plastic loop. Assigning value to waste will result in products that are easier to recycle, homogeneous waste streams by separation at the source, and a steady high quality and quantity of recycled materials. This will result in a substantial decrease of the use of fossil fuels and a reduction of the carbon dioxide emission.
