GB: Household recycling rate barely improved in 2013
The United Kingdom's Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has released a report featuring waste statistics for fiscal year 2013/14. The report examines household waste collected by local governments.
For FY 2013/14, the recycling rate barely increased, rising to only 44.2% from 44.1% a year earlier. In 2013 total ‘Waste from Households’ amounted to 403kg per person, a decrease of 2% on 2012. Total ‘Waste from Households’ amounted to 21.6 million tonnes in 2013. Household waste sent to landfills fell 6.8% in FY 2013/14. Waste sent to incinerators increased 13% to 6.2 million tons, and has more than doubled since 2000/01 (State Recycling Laws Update, 21 November 2014).
