Trends in European retail packaging

Consumer drivers that are important for European retail packaging are age, household size, online sales and health, according to a study performed by Inside packaging magazine. This study, performed in seven European countries, stresses the need for packaging manufacturer to keep abreast of emerging packaging trends.
The study highlights changing demographic patterns as one of the most important factors for the packaging industry, as new populations have new demands. Smaller households push smaller portion size, and an ageing population drives easy to open packaging. The increased importance of private label and ingredient origin are also discussed.
