Effect perforations in MAP packaging for mango and tomato
Accurate design of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is required to achieve superior product quality of fruits and vegetables. Researchers at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology in India developed MAP for mango and tomato by combining different perforations and temperatures.
They found that the ratio of the respiration rate of O2 and CO2 greatly depends on the variation of temperature. The results showed that LDPE film with 0.0125% perforation at refrigeration temperature (10 °C) was found best suitable for packaging both tomato and mango for long term storage. An article about the research is published in the Journal of Packaging Technology and Research.
