EC withdraws Circular Economy Package; new plan to be made
The European Commission (EC) has adopted its Work Programme for 2015. In preparing the programme, the EC examined around 450 proposals that are currently awaiting decision and is proposing to withdraw or amend 80 of them. The Circular Economy Package is one of the proposals that is being withdrawn. In Annex 2 the reasons for withdrawal/modification are given: ‘Withdraw and replace by new, more ambitious proposal by end 2015 to promote circular economy’. The package would have amended Directives 2008/98/EC on waste, 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste, 1999/31/EC on the landfill of waste and a number of other waste directives (Press Release EC, 16 December 2014).
