Dual quality of foodstuffs is allowed as long as label is correct
In his report of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting of 17 May, State secretary Van Dam speaks about, among other things, ‘dual quality of food on the European Market’.
A number of multinationals puts the same product in various compositions (quality, ingredients, and quantity) on the market. According to the Czech Republic this is a form of deception, and products should be the same throughout the EU. However, the European Commission cannot act on this as long as the labelling is correct. The Commission can act when the practices of the multinationals violate the European Directive on Unfair Commercial Practices, Directive EC/2005/29 (Newsletter Waar&Wet, 31 May 2016).
