Eyes glued tight: Super glue confused with tube of eye cream

Just before the summer, ophthalmologist Richard Zegers treated a patient that had left a tube of super glue in the bathroom after using it. In the evening, he confused the glue with his eye cream. Zegers started searching for other examples in which eyes were glued tight with super glue.
He discovered that it is not uncommon that people confuse tubes of glue and medicines. Sometimes children also manage to get their hands on a tube of super glue. Zegers advises the industry to use child resistant closures on the various jars and tubes of glue. The Dutch Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Magazine for Medicine) published his research (News item Diakonessenhuis, 18 October 2017).
