Denmark: Voluntary recycling symbols scheme expanded

20 November 2017

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that about 30 municipalities are now using a recently developed expanded recycling graphics scheme featuring as many as 70 symbols. The scheme launched in January with the first 17 symbols. It is expected to help synchronize municipal waste collection streams with 375 sorting and recycling sites across the country.
The symbols are available for labeling household waste containers as well as signs for recycling sites. It is the intention that the pictograms will be used on packaging in the long term to make it easy for consumers to sort packaging waste correctly (Recycling Laws Update Bulletin, 1 November 2017).
