Consumer buys unpackaged organic fruit and veg more often
More organic fruit and vegetable is sold when it is presented without packaging. Research by Wageningen UR and the ‘GroentenFruit Huis Comité Biohandel’ in a virtual supermarket shows that 20% more consumers bought these unpackaged products.
The second stage of the research took place in the Dutch supermarket Hoogvliet. The product organic avocado was no longer presented in packaging, but unpackaged with sticker information. The regular avocado has always been presented unpackaged. The result of this test was that the volume of organic avocados sold increased significantly during the test period, as did the total volume of all avocados sold (News Item Wageningen UR, 26 March 2015).
