Chocolate Easter bunnies contaminated with mineral oils

Foodwatch had 20 Easter bunnies tested in Germany. Both top brands and supermarkets own brands were tested. 8 of these 20 Easter bunnies were contaminated with aromatic carbohydrates from mineral oils (MOAH). In 15 out of 20 Easter bunnies more than 2 mg/kg saturated carbohydrates (MOSH), which can accumulate in and damage organs, was found.
There are several ways in which these dangerous substances could have ended up in the chocolate, for example from the jute bags in which the cacao beans were packed, during the transportation or processing of the products or ingredients, or the packaging in which it was stored (News Item Foodwatch, 25 March 2016).
