Bulgaria: Draft National Waste Plan released
In September 2014, the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water published a draft National Plan for Waste Management 2014-2020 and launched a public consultation. The plan has four high level strategic objectives: minimize waste generation and its harmful effects, increase recycling and recovery of waste materials, process waste using environmentally safe methods, and integrate the five-step waste hierarchy into management policy.
The plan maps nine distinct programs across the four strategic objectives, including waste generation prevention, reuse/recycling of paper, metal, plastic and glass and recycling/recovery of biodegradable waste (Recycling Laws International, 19 September 2014).
