Draft decree plastic bags in Brussels Capital Region sent to EC
Belgium has sent a draft decree to the European Commission concerning restrictions on the use of plastic carrier bags at points of sale in in Brussels Capital Region. The standstill period ends on 4 September 2017.
Single-use plastic carrier bags paid for by the retailer before 1 September 2017 may be used until 30 November 2017. Single-use bags made of biosourced, home-compostable material, intended for the primary packaging of loose fruit and vegetables may be used until 29 February 2020. Single-use plastic bags intended solely for packaging foods sold at retail level that are wet or contain liquids liable to spill out may be used, provided the bag is sealed, biosourced and home-compostable.
