Analysis of protective properties of corrugated cardboard
In a classical design process the cushioning materials are described by means of the cushion curves. A new procedure, presented in this paper, allows more accurate dynamic compression curve determination, which can be used in the finite elements methods.
The test results of the packaging structure show that the corrugated cardboard influences on the mitigation of impact effect. This mitigation is negligible only under extreme underload or overload of packaging structure, and for its optimal static load the reduction of the acceleration recorded during impact tests reaches up to 50 m/s2.
