General shortage of staff hinders growth in the industry

In almost all sectors, employers are looking for suitable staff. While it was not so long ago that we were saying that robots were going to steal ‘our’ jobs, it doesn’t seem like that will be the case for a while.
The growth numbers of the various sectors are looking good. Construction and business services even grew in volume by respectively 5.5% and 5% during the past year. Industry and the catering industry grew by 3.5% or more. However, the numbers could have been even better. Nearly all sectors are struggling with a shortage of staff. Those unable to fill job openings feel the pressure on production and have to give no for an answer more often (News Release ABN AMRO, 24 January 2018).
