4th meeting EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste
24 May 2018 the 4th Platform of Food waste and food losses took place in the context of the agri/food event AGROBALT in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Platform was an opportunity to take stock of the various achievements in the area in recent months. The specific focus of the meeting was the role of consumers in the fight against food waste. According to a 2015 Eurobarometer survey, 76% of EU citizens acknowledge that they have a role to play in the reduction of food waste. Around 88 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in the EU, with associated costs estimated at 143 billion euros. One published European goal is to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030.
