Michael Nieuwesteeg
Michael Nieuwesteeg MSc MEng (1959) is managing director of NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre. NVC (founded in 1953) is the association of companies addressing the activity of packaging throughout the supply chain of packaged products. The NVC membership, projects, information services and education programme stimulate the continuous improvement of packaging.
Before joining the NVC (1997) Michael was business unit manager within a major medical corporation with worldwide responsibility for the development, manufacturing and sales of intracorporeal medical microsensors in cardiology, urology and neurology. He worked as a member of scientific staff in semiconductor research at a large consumer-electronics and healthcare multinational before that. He started his working life in 1984 as editor-in-chief of a monthly popular-scientific magazine (Technovisie). Michael holds a MSc-degree in Chemistry (Utrecht University, with honours) and a MEng-degree in Chemical Engineering (Twente University).
Michael is board member of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), secretary of the European Packaging Institutes Consortium (EPIC) and chairman of the Netherlands Packaging Standardisation Committee and the Policy Committee on Transport, Logistics and Packaging Standardisation. He was member of the Convenors Action Group (CAG) within ISO, developing the world standards on packaging and environment which were published in January 2013.
