Future-proof Inks for the Packaging Sector
NVC Seminar
Live Online from the NVC Auditorium Gouda
Wednesday 25 June 2025
3-4 PM CEST
By Teodora Tasip
Intern Chemical Engineering at NVC Packaging Centre
Programme
Every second, 320,000 products are packaged worldwide, to be unpacked later at a different time and location from where the packaging originally took place. Despite accounting for only a small percentage of a printed pack’s total weight, ink plays a crucial role in both environmental impact and recyclability. Traditional printing inks often contain harmful substances that pose risks to human health and hinder packaging recycling.
Teodora Tasip will present the results of her assignment that took place in February-June 2025 and was conducted at the NVC Packaging Centre. She studies Chemical Engineering at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Within her assignment, she has been researching the production processes and material characteristics of both conventional and alternative inks that could be future-proof for the packaging sector. ‘Future-proof’ packaging printing inks refers to formulations that comply with upcoming regulations, such as the PPWR and the EU Green Deal, while still maintaining cost efficiency and food safety.
Serra Anker, NVC Manager Packaging Materials and Processes, will start the meeting with a general introduction on NVC activities in printing and packaging. Together with Teodora, she will moderate the concluding debate with all participants in preparation of potential new NVC member activities in the years to come.
You are heartily welcome to participate 100% interactively online from any location worldwide.
