Future of functional and barrier coatings for paper and board

According to a new report by Smithers Pira, the global demand for functional and barrier coatings in paper and paperboard applications, is forecast to grow by 4.9% year-on-year to $5.18 billion by 2022. The Asia-Pacific market will represent over 54% of worldwide use by 2022, up from 46% in 2012, with Japan the only major economy in the region expected to have a reduced demand.
Market demands for more sustainable packaging are increasing, as are regulatory requirements that are forcing companies to consider new alternatives. The packaging industry continues to demand new solutions from functional and barrier coating suppliers (Press Release Smithers Pira, 25 May 2017).
