The Last Mile: Sustainable home deliveries

26 June 2015

Home delivery has a lower environmental impact than traditional shopping. The Green Mile, a study performed by EY and Thuiswinkel.org: about the sustainability of the last mile in the Dutch e-commerce shows that the home delivery of one package is 0.7 cents more environmentally friendly than conventional shopping. With the amount of home delivered packages in 2014 reaching 190 million, this results in an environmental impact reduction of 1.33 million euros.
This report, in which the environmental impact of different delivery systems is compared with traditional shopping, provides practical suggestions on the retailer’s potential to reduce their environmental impact.
