Opportunities of AI for the retail experience
The world of online shopping is constantly evolving, with retailers opting for the optimal omni- or opti-channel strategy to provide customers with the best experience. In this context, AI is playing an increasing role within the industry and many new technologies are being used in the customer journey of online shopping. DPG Media's target group research shows that most Dutch people, regardless of age, still prefer shopping in physical stores to online shopping. L.E.K. Consulting has published an infographic (211 kB) exploring AI’s transformative role in retail, the challenges to unlocking its full potential, and how data can be leveraged for a competitive edge. They define three key areas: granular segmentation, efficient personalisation and smarter promotions.

Intergenerational differences of consumers
A study (1.35 MB) on green logistics by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria has been published in the journal Sustainable Futures. The title is ‘Intergenerational differences of consumers’ perception related to the value of green logistics: A focus on transport, packaging, and waste management’. The findings show that generations are generally interested in green logistics, with a higher willingness to pay for green logistics among younger consumers. In addition, the younger generation requires a higher level of information regarding green logistics behind a product.

E-commerce consumer behaviour
The Visa Payment Monitor (in Dutch) shows that the majority of Dutch consumers (57%) ordered from Asian online shops last year. Of them, 38% even did so several times. Among Gen Z, the percentage is even higher: as many as 71% of young people bought from these webshops in the past year.
Mondi has announced the results of its annual e-commerce trend report ‘Sustainability and its impact on packaging and online shopping choices’. The study examines trends, attitudes and expectations regarding e-commerce and the impact packaging has on the consumer experience. 71% of consumers now shop online at least once a month, up from 56% last year. Also, only 50% of consumers trust brand’s sustainability claims, underscoring the need for transparency. You can download the report after filling in your details.
