PT: New National Waste Management Plan takes effect

The new Portuguese National Waste Management Plan has officially been published in the Diário da República. The plan covers 2014-2020 and was approved by the Council of Ministers on December 31, 2014.
According to the Environmental Agency, the plan, integrating the 5 level waste hierarchy, has two high level objectives: support the efficient use of natural resources in production and consumption and prevent or reduce the adverse environmental impacts of the generation and management of waste. The 2 high level objectives are supported by 26 “operational objectives and actions”. The document is essentially a macro planning tool for the government (Recycling Laws International, 17 April 2015).
