Process and food industry expect increase in shortage of professionals
The amount of job vacancies in the process and food industry seems to be increasing, according to a report by the Netherlands UWV. As a result, the sector will have to address the challenge of shortages in professionals.
The increase in the amount of job vacancies is caused by increases in production, but also by ageing. About 15% of the employees are aged 55-plus, and this figure is even higher amongst operators.
The shortages may occur specifically at positions which require medium technical qualifications (operators, maintenance engineers).
Also, the average level of required qualifications is shifting towards higher technical levels.
