25 September 2017

Local and national governments in more than 20 countries around the world have actionable plans in place to reduce the waste of food, according to a new report. The recent growth in government-led initiatives targeting food waste reflects increasing public awareness of the issue and its impacts on food security, the economy and the environment. The report analyzes 93 official plans addressing food waste developed by local, state, and national governments. Researchers assessed how the government plans approached the topic of food waste, including how they framed their objectives and evaluated progress (News Item Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 17 August 2017).
