Nordic Council calls for a toxic-free everyday environment

01 May 2015

The Nordic Council is calling for a more effective policy for preventing exposure to hazardous chemicals, especially of children, and for the EU to draw up criteria for identifying hormone-disrupting substances. The use of SVHCs on the Candidate list (EU REACH legislation) must stop as soon as possible.
People are exposed on a daily basis to a large number of chemicals from many different sources, e.g. toys, cosmetics, food packaging, medicine, etc. Although there are only small amounts of the various EDCs in everyday products, they can have a cumulatively harmful effect, and this makes them and other harmful chemicals a source of concern (Nordic Council, 26 March 2015).
