NO: Packaging EPR regulation to take effect on 1 July 2017

19 May 2017

Under a regulation drafted by the Norwegian Environmental Directorate, firms that produce or import more than 1,000 kilograms of packaging annually will need to register with an extended producer responsibility (EPR) organization (called a “return company” in the regulation) to take back their waste packaging.
Packaging producers would also need to report annually on efforts they make to prevent packaging waste generation and the quantity of waste that was prevented relative to the previous year. The regulation would take effect on July 1 of this year, but packaging producers would have until January 1, 2018 to register with a return company (Recycling Laws International, 12 May 2017).
With NVC MERGE (Members-only Environmental Regulations Guide) you can keep up-to-date with the environmental requirements for your packaging. MERGE is exclusively for NVC members and there are no costs involved.
