NL: Landfill and incineration of waste to be taxed in 2015

In the annual budget for 2014 it was agreed that a tax on waste would be reintroduced. So far, starting on 1 April 2014, a tax on landfilling was introduced. However, this tax will not result in the intended income of €100 million in 2015. Also the tax does not really contribute very much towards meeting environmental goals.
On 2 July 2014 the Dutch state secretary of Finance sent a letter to the House of Representatives concerning the proposal for the waste tax as of 1 January 2015. Both landfill and incineration will be taxed. In both cases the rate will be €13 per ton. The proposal is based on a study performed by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency.
