NL: 55% knows difference Best Before and Use By date

29 June 2016

Three quarters of the Dutch people think they can contribute to the prevention of food waste. This is shown by research commissioned by the Dutch Food Centre (Voedingscentrum). Once every two years research bureau GfK assesses the awareness, attitude, knowledge, habits and skills regarding food waste. The amount of people that inspect products after the best before date has passed, has risen from 55% in 2013 to 59% in 2015. An increasing amount of people visually inspect, smell and taste to determine if a product is still edible. More people know the difference between a best before date and a use by date. That percentage grew from 45% to 55% (News Item Voedingscentrum, 30 May 2016).
