NL: Many nail products do not comply with legal requirements

26 January 2017

Research by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) on nail products shows that 85% of the 121 nail products, acrylic liquids and primers do not comply with the legal requirements. This often involves a combination of requirements for using the substances p-hydroxyanisol and hydroquinone in these products. None of the 102 products with p-hydroxyanisol meets all the requirements. None of the products is labelled correctly. The mandatory precautionary statements are often missing on the pack, and usually not written in the correct language. Businesses have to adapt their products according to the recorded shortcomings (News item NVWA, 12 January 2017).
