NL: Research agenda for materials science published
FOM, NWO Chemical Sciences and Technology Foundation STW have published a report describing the strengths of Dutch materials science and the international trends in this field. It concludes with a research agenda that contains 6 multidisciplinary themes. With this it forms the basis for new research programming and serves as input for the National Research Agenda.
Packaging is mentioned a number of times, for example in the theme ‘Thin films and coatings’. Active scavenging or (chemo)absorption of unwanted species inside packaging can help to establish the ideal atmosphere. Sensoring and signalling of food packaging materials can help in preventing food waste (Press Release FOM, 3 March 2016).
